Surprise Win For Vojvodina
// 05 December 2006

KK Vojvodina Srbijagas recorded their first victory in EuroCup Group F, turning the form book on its head to defeat ASK Riga 83-60.

The victory ended Vojvodina's run of four defeats in the opening four games to move them off the bottom of the group, while Riga still now have a 3-2 record.

It was Riga who took control in the first period, with guard Sandis Valters helping himself to three three-pointers as his side developed a 26-21 lead at the end of the first quarter.

But the Serbian side fought back, showing the kind of form that has given them a 100% record in their domestic league, to dominate the second period and power into a 40-33 lead at half-time.

The hosts carried the momentum into the third quarter and Cedomir Vitkovac drove them forward as they outscored their opponents 17-10 to go into the final quarter with a 57-43 lead.

That lead was to prove too much for Riga to pull back and 14 final quarter points from Vladimir Golubovic inspired the home side to a surprise victory.

Vitkovac was the game's outstanding player, helping himself to 24 points for Vojvodina, while Marko Scekic snatched six rebounds in an impressive defensive performance for the Serbian side.

Valters was the visitors' leading points scorer, but his total of 18 proved in vain.
