Promising forward Viktor Sanikidze of Estudiantes has had an appendectomy and faces a race against time to play in the EuroCup Final Four.

The Georgian international underwent the operation on Tuesday and is recovering at his home in Madrid.

Sanikidze, a 2.03m power forward, needs three to four weeks to recover before returning to the court, and the EuroCup semi-finals are to be played on April 13.

The 20-year-old Sanikidze has averaged just under 10 minutes per game this season in the EuroCup.

He impressed while playing for Georgia's national team at the U20 European Championship Men Division B last year, averaging 24.3 points and 10.9 rebounds.

Estu swept Dynamo Moscow Region in two games to reach the semi finals where they will take on fellow Spanish outfit, Akasvayu Girona.

Their next game is this weekend in the Spanish ACB at home to Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket.
