GAME REPORT

Dexia Win Round II Opener

Dexia Mons-Hainaut erupted for 26 second-quarter points, while allowing Slask Wroclaw just 12, en route to an 84-66 triumph over the Polish team on Tuesday night in the Round II Group K opener for both sides.

Ante Kapov's jump shot at the end off the first quarter had pulled the visitors to within 15-13, but they would then be overrun by Dexia.

In the decisive second quarter, center Christopher Young scored 11 of his 14 points as Dexia took command.

Slask did not give up. Two free throws from Kamil Chanas with 4:50 to go in the third quarter left the visitors just eight points behind at 47-39, and it looked as if Dexia could be in danger of a major collapse.

But Dragan Markovic buried a three-pointer to calm the nerves for the home side and after Bojan Obradovic made one of two from the line, George Evans sank a jumper to stretch the lead back to 53-39.

Baskets from Dante Swanson and Karpov trimmed the deficit to 55-44, but Slask would get no closer.

Markovic hit another three and then Evans sank a jumper to restore a 60-44 lead. The Polish team would trail by no less than 14 points the rest of the way.

Dexia will not lose many games like this if they continue to rebound as they did on Tuesday. They pulled down 47 boards to just 31 for Slask.

Markovic's outside shooting was crucial for Dexia. He finished four of six behind the arc and had 16 points overall.

As a team, Dexia were just six of 24 (25%) from long range in the game. Dexia visit BC Zadar for their next game, while Slask are at home to Lokomotiv Rostov.
