Glenn McGowan led a miracle fight back as RheinEnergie Koln overcame a 21-point deficit in the final 13 minutes to knock off Dynamo Moscow Region 75-73 on Tuesday in their EuroCup Group J opener in Cologne.

Immanuel McElroy's free throws with 16 seconds closed off a frantic 34-11 run to end the game as McGowan, McElroy and Aleksandar Nadjfeji combined for 29 points over the final 13 minutes.

The rookie McGowan led all scorers with 29 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds, while Nadjfeji tallied 17 points. McElroy chipped in 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Russian international center Nikita Morgunov had 21 points and nine rebounds for Moscow Region while Audrius Giedraitis added 20 points and Sam Hoskin had 13 points.

McGowan and McElroy started hot, combining for 13 points as RheinEnergie opened a 15-6 lead. Morgunov's three-pointer (his tenth point already) completed an 11-0 run for a 17-15 lead. The Russians were ahead 19-17 after 10 minutes.

McGowan's lay-up cut the Russian lead to 22-19. But Hoskin scored 11 points as Dynamo went on a 27-10 tear to make it 49-29 with just 40 seconds left in the half. The lead was 49-32 after 20 minutes.

Sasa Obradovic's German team couldn't find their game, and Rutjanis Paulauskas's side opened a 62-41 advantage with Valeriy Dayneko's jumper with 2:43 left in the third.

But Nadjfeji scored seven points as RheinEnergie closed the quarter with an 11-0 run to get back to the magical 10-point deficit - 62-52 - after 30 minutes.

Nadjfeji's jumper opened the fourth quarter and completed the 13-0 run. Morgunov's free throw pushed the bulge back up to 10 points - 65-55 - with 8:14 left. But three McGowan three-pointers paced a 13-4 run to close the game to 69-68.

Morgunov tried to fend off the Germans with two free throws with 1:55 remaining. But McElroy buried a three-pointer of his own just seconds later to even things at 71-71. And Nadjfeji's lay-up with 36 seconds left gave RheinEnergie their first lead since 15-14 late in the first quarter.

Morgunov evened things again on two free throws with 20 seconds left, setting up McElroy's heroics. After making the two free throws with 16 seconds, McElroy then rebounded Hoskin's miss with three seconds left only to miss both free throws. Luckily, Stevin Smith's desperation heave at the buzzer was off target.
