Slask Boost Qualification Hopes

Slask Wroclaw boosted their hopes of a place in the next phase of the EuroCup while dashing those of winless MPC Capitals with a 79-69 triumph over the Dutch in Groningen.

The Poles were in a dogfight at half-time with the score tied at 37-37, but after the intermission it seemed as if the lid was on the basket for the hosts, who simply could not score.

Slask outscored them 11-1 in the first four minutes of the second half to lead 48-38, and though Ton Boot's team pulled to within three near the end of the third quarter, they never completed the comeback.

A three-pointer from the 20 year old Kamil Chanas with 6:34 to play in the game - his third in as many attempts - gave the visitors a 68-56 advantage, and Tomasz Jankowski's team was able to hold on for the remainder of the half.

Chanas finished with a game-high 22 points and Ante Kapov had 21.

Slask return home to face Maroussi of Greece, one of the title contenders in the EuroCup, next week, while Capitals go in search of their first win when they travel to Israel to face Hapoel Tel Aviv Subaru.
