BC Zadar capped a terrific turnaround in their EuroCup campaign by defeating RheinEnergie Köln 75-67 to climb into second place in Group B.
Gran Canaria had been in second before Tuesday's play but they suffered an 84-80 defeat at Basket Groot Leuven.
That allowed Zadar to leapfrog them in the table and advance to the EuroCup Round II with the Spaniards' interest in the competition coming to a halt.
Both Gran Canaria and Zadar finished with three wins and three defeats, but Zadar had a +1 point differential in their two games, thus giving them the tiebreaker.
Todor Gecevski had 15 points to pace Zadar.
The decisive stage of the game occurred with just over three minutes remaining with Zadar leading 14-11.
Pankracije Barac made a pair of free throws to spark an 11-0 run, giving the hosts a 25-11 advantage with 20 seconds to go in the first quarter.
Zadar stretched their lead to 37-17 early in the second quarter and they held a firm grip on the contest the rest of the way.
The triumph also avenged their defeat to RheinEnergie earlier in the campaign. The Germans had won that first contest 74-49.
