Dexia Mons-Hainaut 71 vs. Demon Astronauts 79
Belgian side Dexia Mons Hainaut could not come up with the required win against visitors Amsterdam on Tuesday night to keep their slim FIBA Europe League hopes alive.
Going into the game without the injured Jean-Marc Jaumin and new player Djittim Young (who is not qualified to play in the FIBA Europe League), Dexia had their work cut out.
Despite a strong start by the home side, Amsterdam stayed within reach. Dexia simply committed too many errors and by halftime the visitors had retaken the lead, 33-35.
The game stayed close in the third quarter and with the score tied at 52-52 after 30 minutes, the contest was still up for grabs.
But it was Amsterdam who seized the initiative in the fourth quarter. Dexia had problems keeping their opponents off the boards and Amsterdam took advantage, outscoring the Belgians 27-19 in the final 10 minutes and taking the game.
It was Gintautas Vileita who sealed the win with a late three-pointer, and he finished the game with 23 points. Joseph Spinks added 23 points and 7 rebounds.
