GAME REPORT

BC Khimki 85 Ural Great 79

After 3 failed attempts this season, BC Khimki finally proved that they can defeat fellow Russian side Ural Great. The 2 teams have met twice in the Superleague and once in the opening game of their FEL Quarter-Final Play-Off series, all 3 contests going to the side from Perm.

This time honours went to BC Khimki, giving the Moscow based side a huge confidence boost going into the deciding game on 25th February.

As in the first game, Khimki jumped out to an early lead after forward Alexander Petrenko scored 11 consecutive points for his team.

Khimki were undone in the first game due to a great 4th quarter shooting display from Ural Great guard Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. This time around they concentrated on defense and it paid off.

The home team’s intesity was such that Ural Great had problems even getting a shot off and the visitors committed several shot clock violations.

For all their solid play, Khimki led by only 2 points going into the final quarter, not a large margin when faced with the offensive firepower that Ural Great have at their command.

It was at the offensive end where Khimki won the game though. 16 second half points from forward Sergey Krasnikov and a 9-2 run gave Khimki the leeway they needed and they held on for the win.

Krasnikov was voted game MVP after finishing with 20 points (a season high), 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Vassili Karassev added 16 points.

Ural Great were once again led by Abdul-Rauf who scored 18 points, but missed all 5 of his 3-point attempts.
