Antwerp Have Strickland, Wilson For 2010-11

06 July 2010

Trent Strickland got a taste of the EuroChallenge last season when he played for Antwerp Giants in the Quarter-Finals against Scavolini Pesaro.

The Italians swept the series, however, to reach the Final Four.

Those were the only two EuroChallenge games that the 1.96m forward played in for the Belgian club last season.

Strickland, 26, will be hoping for a lot more in 2010-11 after agreeing to a new contract with the club.

Antwerp will enter in the Qualifying Round for the EuroChallenge.

The club has also secured the services of forward Darnell Wilson.

The American forward played for Belgian rivals VOO Verviers-Pepinster last season and averaged 15.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, three players with Antwerp links have changed gears and put on their national team shirts in a bid to help Belgium reach EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania.

Belgium coach Eddy Casteels, who is also the coach of Antwerp, has Christophe Beghin, Roel Moors and Randy Oveneke in his national team squad.

Beghin is coming off a fantastic year with the Giants, which resulted in him being named as the club's 2009-10 MVP at the end-of-season party.

Belgian champions Spirou Basket Charlero, however, announced on June 28 that they had secured the services for Beghin for next season.
