Proteas EKA AEL are still searching for that elusive first road win of the season after a triple by Denis Khloponin ninety seconds from the final buzzer proved to be the game winning shot in a tight 70-67 win for Krasnye Krylia. | | Denis Khloponin drained a late three pointer that proved to be the game winning shot for Samara |
The Russian hosts enjoyed the better of the opening period as they moved into an 18-11 lead and with just under six minutes remaining until the interval, they had increased their advantage to 29-21. However a big triple by Bryan Bracey swung the momentum in the favour of Proteas as it sparked a 12-3 run for the visitors which handed them a 33-32 lead. However that was the end of the scoring by the visitors in the first half as the Russian team finished strongly with back to back baskets to regain the lead heading into the third quarter. Neither team was able to make a decisive run in a tight third quarter which finished 53-53 and with two minutes of the game remaining, both teams remained inseparable at 67-67. However that triple by Khloponin broke the deadlock and proved enough to hand the home team victory. Flores finished with 23 points for the hosts while Douthit weighed in with 18. Veteran forward Ioannis Giannoulis claimed a creditable double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Cypriot club. |
