FIBA Europe has informed all of its member federations, about their current stance on the ongoing unrest in Ukraine, and how this may affect the U18 European Championship Division B this summer.
FIBA Europe is in daily contact with the Ukrainian Basketball Federation to garner their perspective on the current happenings in their country and additionally, FIBA Europe is continuing to independently monitor the situation.
On 25 February, before the FIBA Europe Executive Committee meeting, FIBA Europe met with Ukrainian Basketball Federation Secretary General Oleksandr Larin and Head of the Local Organising Committee Markian Lubkivskyi and discussed the situation in great length, but FIBA Europe also acknowledges that there are now new developments to consider, namely the events taking place since Thursday in Eastern and Southern Ukraine.
Should the situation deteriorate, FIBA Europe has in place a contingency plan with discussions already taking place with alternative host federations.
A final decision on this will be taken on the weekend of 22-23 March at the next FIBA Europe Board Meeting in Munich.
