Turkey To Play Serbia & Montenegro In Final

Hosts Serbia & Montenegro will play Turkey in Sunday's U18 European Championship Men final.

The home side dispatched Italy 77-64 in their semi-final in front of 6000 fans while the Turks edged Spain 78-77 in the other match.

The Serbo-Montenegrins roared into a 22-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and honours were even at the interval with the score 22-33 in the second period.

The third quarter saw the home team pull two points further clear and the fourth quarter was also shared to give them a 13-point victory margin.

Five players posted double digit scores for the hosts with Ivan Paunic topping the board for his team with with 18.

Milenko Topic posted 14 as did Milos Teodosic while Vladimir Dasic poured in 10.

However, Dragan Labovic produced a herculean effort and in addition to his 12 points he contributed 17 rebounds in his team's cause.

Italy's Danilo Gallinari scored a game-high 19 points while Luigi Dattome (17) and Davide Bruttini (10) also impressed in a losing cause.

The match between Turkey and Spain which was a thriller and pitted together two of the tournament stars.

Jose Angel Antelo produced yet another brilliant display but his haul of 27 points (including four three-pointers and three free throws) and 15 rebounds was not enough.

The Santiago de Compostela-born ace and his team-mates roared into a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but the Turks were level at half-time after taking the second 29-20.

The Turks hit the front in the third quarter which they took 24-21 but although Spain took the final period 15-13 it left them an agonising point short.

Oguz Savas scored what proved the winning basket with 20 seconds left and then Sergio Llull's three-pointer attempt on the buzzer missed to give victory to the Turks.

Mehmet Yagur poured in 25 points for the victors while Savas posted 19 and 11 rebounds.

Engin Emre Bayav added 13 while Cenk Akyol, who has been Turkey's star performer in the tournament, made 10 and added 8 assists.

Antelo was not the only Spanish player to register double digits with Albert Teruel making 20 and nine rebounds while Xavier Rey Sanuy (11) and Pau Ribas Tossas (10) also impressed for the losers.
