DKV's EuroCup MVP Rudy Fernandez has decided to remain in Spanish basketball for another two seasons before moving to the NBA and compatriot Pau Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies has backed his decision.

Fernandez, 21, was an early entry candidate for this month's draft but he has withdrawn his name for consideration.

Rudy Fernandez was the EuroCup Final Four MVP.
"He is a special player, who has a great talent and has had an excellent season, better than the last campaign," said Gasol.

"If you have a lot of ambition and you want to take the risk then go for it but I would wait.

"I think that still he lacks a couple of years of experience before going to the NBA."

Fernandez will play in the Euroleague for the first time next season as DKV reached the semi-finals of the ACB play-offs.

Both he and Gasol played on Spain's national team at the Olympics in 2004 and Fernandez represented Spain at last year's EuroBasket.

As for Gasol's brother Marc, a bit-part player for Barcelona this season, Pau said: "Marc has a lot of talent and can give a lot to a team which gives him the chance.

"The objective of my brother should be to go to a club that is aiming at finishing high in the league and qualifying for a place in European competitions."
