|Jacopo Vedovato and Italy's height caused issues for Bulgaria in their second consecutive game in Latvia|
Italy bounced back from its opening day loss to Spain to record a strong 98-47 win over Bulgaria in Group C at the U18 European Championship on Friday.
A mix of hot shooting and solid defence opened up the game for the Italians in the first half. A five-minute scoring drought allowed Italy to hold Bulgaria to just six first-quarter points before the Italians built on their double-digit lead by making five-from-seven three-point attempts in the second quarter.
Italy's defence registered 15 steals and forced 26 Bulgarian turnovers in the 49-point win.
Wings Simone Fontecchio and Nicola Akele led Italy with 21 and 16 points respectively while point guard Marco Spissu collected eight assists.
Bulgaria were again dependent on high-scoring forward Aleksandar Vezenkov (21 points) to provide offence. They now fall to 0-2 after consecutive losses. Another tough matchup looms against Spain on Saturday.
