Montenegro won an 81-79 thriller over the Czech Republic on day three of the U18 European Championship Men Division B in Debrecen, Hungary. The Montenegrins (2-1) looked to be headed for another setback after falling to Austria on Saturday but they outscored the Czechs 25-17 over the final 10 minutes. Nedeljko Bogdanovic and Milorad Sutulovic scored 18 points apiece for Montenegro. The Czechs (1-1), who blew out the Netherlands in their opener, got another terrific outing from Jan Vesely but his 24 points were enough. The Austrians continued to impress by winning for a third successive game. On Sunday, they beat Norway 78-63 and now lead Group A at 3-0, followed by Montenegro, the Czechs (1-1), Norway (0-2) and the Netherlands (0-2). In Group B, Slovenia knocked Switzerland from ranks of the unbeaten with an 86-56 triumph while Bosnia-Herzegovina defeated Ireland 79-70. The Swiss (2-1) still top the pool on five points over Slovenia (2-0) and the Bosnians (1-2), who each have four. Sweden (1-1) are fourth with three points and Ireland (0-2) are last with two. Portugal prevailed for the first time in Group C with a 106-67 demolition of Belarus while Poland claimed a third success in as many games, beating Romania 79-47. The Poles are top of the pool ahead of Portugal (1-1), England (1-1), Romania (1-1) and Belarus (0-3). In Group D, Denmark (2-1) claimed an 81-75 win over Georgia (1-1) and Slovakia (2-0) edged Finland 77-74. The Danes lead the group ahead of Slovakia, Finland (1-2), Georgia and Hungary (0-2). |
