Jomantas, Kelys Out Of All-Star Game In Lithuania

16.03.2010

Lietuvos Rytas hotshot Arturas Jomantas and promising point guard Zydrunas Kelys of Vilnius minnows Perlas are both hurt and unable to take part in the Lithuanian All-Star Game on March 20.

Jomantas, a Lithuania international, didn't play in his club's Baltic Basketball League game against Zalgiris on Saturday, a contest the Kaunas club won 85-82.

Lietuvos Rytas have announced the player's withdrawal from the All-Star Game but did not specify what is ailing him.

He is expected to return to the line-up soon.

Zalgiris' exciting forward Tadas Klimavicius will replace him in the starting five for the Wolves - the veteran team.

For the younger Eagles squad at the All-Star Game, Aidas Viskontas has replaced Kelys, a player whose season has been prematurely ended by injury.

Kelys, 22, averaged 16.1 points and 4.5 assists per game this season.

Despite leading the league in turnovers with an average of 5.6, Lithuanian giants Lietuvos Rytas have decided to bring him on board for the 2010-11 campaign.

Kelys represented Lithuania at the U18 European Championship five years ago and also played for the Baltic country at the U20 European Championship in 2006.

"Zydrunas is a player with exceptional talent," Lietuvos Rytas chairman Jonas Vainauskas said recently.

"With hard work, he has a great opportunity to become a very high level player."
