Fenerbahce survived a 40-point explosion from Keravnos Keo forward George Banks to win a close contest in the 3rd place game of the FIBA Europe Cup Men Conference South Final Four.
Banks scored 29 of his points in the first half alone as the Cypriot side kept Fenerbahce well under their control throughout the first 3 periods.
It was not until 6 minutes to go in the game that Fenerbahce looked like even having a chance to win. A steal and breakaway dunk by Rasim Basak sparked a 9-0 run in favour of the Turkish side and they suddenly found themselves with a 6-point advantage, 91:84.
The game was not over yet though and 5 consecutive points from Keravnos center Panayiotis Trisokka saw the Cypriot team regain the lead, 91:92.
Both teams traded baskets, before a putback from Erkan Veyseloglu gave Fenerbahce the lead at 95:94. Guard Mike Jones came up with a steal for Fenerbahce on the next possession and was fouled, his 2 free throws giving his side a 3-point lead with 16 seconds left.
Keravnos took a timeout and drew up a play to find Banks. The forward had hit 4/7 three-pointers up to that point, but his final attempt fell short and Fenerbahce were the victors.
