Ural Great secured a spot in the eighth-finals of the EuroCup Challenge on Wednesday night, beating Ukrainian side Khimik on the road.

It took a Vadim Panin three-pointer to give the Russians an 87-86 victory in the first contest between the two sides, and the return leg was just as close.

A blistering start from Ural Great threatened to settle the game before it had barely begun. They hit their first four field goals, including consecutive three-pointers from Bosnia & Herzegovina international Jasmin Hukic which gave them a 2-10 lead after three minutes.

Ural Great consolidated their advantage and finished the first quarter in front, 12-23.

The visitors maintained a comfortable advantage for most of the first half, but began to falter in the third period as Khimik mounted a comeback.

Trailing 38-47, Yaroslav Zubrytskyy hit a jump shot for Khimik which sparked a 15-4 run to close the quarter. A buzzer beating three-pointer from Oleg Yushkin capped the run and Khimik grabbed their first lead of the game, 53-51, with ten minutes to play.

The final period was the most open of the game featuring three lead changes and four ties. The turning point came in the 38th minute, courtesy of up-and-coming star Egor Vyaltsev.

The 20-year old guard checked into the game for Vadim Panin and had an immediate impact, going to the basket for a hoop and foul and draining the free throw to put his side back in front 66-68.

Khimik replied through Dubravko Zemljic, but a Jurica Golemac three-pointer gave Ural Great the lead, this time for good (68-71).

The Russians then turned to guard Terell Lyday and he made 3/4 free throws in the last ten seconds to secure the win.

Lyday finished with 17 points, 5 assists and 6 steals for Ural Great while Andre Hutson also addded 17.

Zemljic had 27 points and 6 rebounds for Khimik.
