CAB Madeira managed to achieve the 2nd victory in the FIBA Europe Cup this evening.
The Portugueses defeated SC Keflavik in a very close game.
After a first half which was dominated by Madeira (58-46), the guests from Iceland got a better attitude towards the match and won the third period 19-32, also taking the lead in the game (77-78).
The last quarter brought emotions to the match with both teams fighting hard to take the lead.
With 26 seconds to play Arnar Jonsson missed 1 of his 2 free shots and made the score 106-107.
Now, it was Jose Marcos, CAB Madeira’s point-guard, who took control of the ball on the last ball possession of his team, scoring 2 decisive points that guaranteed the Portuguese victory.
Keflavik still had 5 seconds to play but the Icelander weren’t able to hit another game-winning basket before the final whistle.
MVP: Nicholas Bradford
Jorge Henriques, Head Coach, CAB Madeira:
"We had some natural problems with the communication between the players due to some injured players, that now give their comebacks. Keflavik’s team is a strong team, that was trying to get first in our group today. They’re all excellent three point shooters."
Gudjon Skulason, Head Coach, SC Keflavik:
"I’m not sure if it’s appropriate, but I think the referee took the victory away from us. We had a good second half, good shooting, good defense and all came down to one small thing, that didn’t follow our way and that’s how it goes in basketball.”
