TSK Wuerzburg had a strong performance of american guard Jason Perez (31 points) today and took game 2 of the playoff round against Swiss champions BC Boncourt 95-87.
After winning 95-82 in game 1 in Switzerland on Tuesday Würzburg advance to the “Final Four” of the Central Conference of FIBA Europe Cup.
Thanks to some sloppy defense and a lot of missed opportunities on offense by the home team, Boncourt took the early lead (11-19) in the first quarter.
The Swiss team tried to stop the German side with aggressive defense and relied mostly on the individual skills of their two American players, Yuanta Holland (23 points) and Alonzo Richmond (19 points) to score points. But that was not enough to build a decisive advantage and win the game. At halftime the score was tied (43-43).
In a very close match that featured ten lead changes in the third quarter alone, the home team used the strong play of Jason Perez, Tony Kitchings and Ivo Kresta, who scored 42 of Wuerzburg’s 52 second half points, to secure their second win in the playoff round.
With the score tied 70-70 after 32 minutes, Boncourt payed for their over-aggressive style of play and Slaven Smiljanic, Jozsef Szendrei, Alonzo Richond and as well as Marco Sassella fouled out. Würzburg took the lead for good, 74-70 when Perez hit two free throws with 7:47 to play.
Boncourt managed to keep the score close until the final minute, but Nils Mittmann, Jason Perez and Igor Perovic converted seven of eight free throws and TSK put the game out of reach for the Swiss.
