Pecs' Chantelle Anderson battles against Maria Stepanova
MIZO-Pecsi VSK added another victory to their perfect home record after a 70-62 win against the World Cup Champions VBM SGAU Samara. Today's game in Pecs was almost a carbon copy of of the Hungarians' victory attained in the first round in Samara (70-60).

Pécs took the lead after four seconds on a basket by Andrea Károlyi, and held onto it until the 8th minute in the second quarter. Ilona Korstine led the Russian attack with a variety of brilliant fast break baskets. Samara went to the locker room at halftime holding a three point lead (31-34).

The third quarter started with two three point baskets by Allison Tranquilli, and Pécs recovered the lead for good (39-38). Riding the ever more efficient inside game of Chantelle Anderson (elected the MVP of the game), Pécs built a 14 point lead with 6 minutes to go (64-50).

At that point coach Grudin of Samara practically gave up, pulling his star center Maria Stepanova from the court.

With the win Pécs took a big step towards the playoffs, while Samara, club world champions a few months ago, are virtually eliminated, after a game in which the Russians didn't score from behind the 3 point line.
