American star Lisa Leslie registered 13 points and 10 rebounds and team-mate Linda Fröhlich scored a game-high 22 points to lead Spartak Moscow to a 74-67 win over Anda Ramat Hasharon in the first game of the home and away EuroCup Women quarter-finals.
Leslie, a winner of three Olympic gold medals, has now posted two double-doubles in three EuroCup Women games since signing with the Russian club. However it was a struggle from the field as Leslie shot just 5-of-18 and also fouled out with 1:28 remaining in the game.
Spartak also got a double-digit scoring from Ticha Penicheiro with 17 points.
Fröhlich’s offense carried Spartak to the win. Twelve of her 22 points came via four three-point field goals.
The two teams will match-up on 9 February on Anda’s home-court in Israel. The team with the highest combined score from the two games will advance to the EuroCup Women semi-finals.
In other opening games in the EuroCup Women quarter-finals, BC Chevakata edged Coconuda Maddaloni 64-63. Elen Shakirova led the way for Chevakata with 23 points.
Edna Campbell's 26 points helped Pays D´Aix Basket to a 73-57 victory over Nadezhda.
In the final game, Halcon Avenida easily beat Besiktas Colaturka 78-60 thanks in part to a 24-point performance by Elena Tornikidou. |
