Turkey retained their 100% record at the U16 European Championship for Women Monday, securing their spot in the last eight of the competition with a 51-42 victory over Hungary.
Centre Hülya Coklar snared 23 points and 16 rebounds as the Turks joined Spain at the top of Group F but it was not the performance coach Erkan Metin wanted.
"We won and we're in the quarter-finals but we want to play good basketball that the audience will enjoy," he said.
"We want to be in a good place in our group and that means beating Italy tomorrow."
The two sides matched each other, score for score, in the first half, as their offenses stuttered.
But the Turks swept in front with a 6-0 run early in the third quarter and steadily increased their advantage.
Vivien Böröndy had 9 points for Hungary, who meet fellow strugglers, the Netherlands, on Tuesday.
