Greece claimed victory in a shoot-out with Croatia to get their U16 European Championship campaign off to a victorious start.
But it required a balanced offensive effort to come out on top as Yorgos Velissarakos steered his team to a 68-56 win.
The Greeks never trailed after Anna Stamolamprou hit the first 2 of her team-best 19 points with 3:57 left in the opening quarter and although Croatia hit back to level, they fell into a damaging slump.
A 8-0 run saw Greece sweep clear at the end of the first quarter and they repeated the feat at the end of the first with a 8-2 burst that secured a 31-18 advantage at half-time.
Croatia centre Antonija Chiabov delivered a dominant inside performance, grabbing 22 points and 11 rebounds to put the Greeks under pressure in an even third period.
But careless possessions cost Croatia any hope of a comeback as their opponents held on.
"This is a win we really wanted because Croatia are a difficult team," said Velissarakos, "But we have to keep improving."
