Bulgaria, England Score Important Wins

Bulgaria secured an important overtime win over Denmark while in another match-up England handed Germany their first defeat of tournament, on Day 2 action at the Qualifying Round of the U16 European Championship Women Division B.

Bulgaria and Denmark tried to get a win to keep the dreams of the Quarter-Final Round alive. The game couldn't be decided in regulation. In the extra period Bulgaria outscored their opponent 10-5 and tabbed the big win. Iva Kostava played a huge game with 28 points and 6 steals.

In other Group E matches Portugal beat Latvia 51-40 while Hungary added yet another win as they routed Slovenia 79-36.

In Group F Germany lost for the first time in the tournament. England played a strong fourth quarter to turn around a game in which they already trailed 50-63 late in the third period. Germany scored only 7 points in the final minutes. Chantel Charles had a tremendous game for the English. She scored 21 points and added 5 assists as well as 7 steals.

Romania defeated Ireland (54-46) behind Iulia Raileanu's 21 points to set up a "Final" for a spot among the best eight teams versus Israel.

Israel lost their match with the still unbeaten Slovak Republic by 24 points. No Israeli player could score in double figures. For Slovakia Michaela Rakova landed a remarkable double double (17 points, 21 rebounds).
