ROUNDUP

The final day of the Qualifying Round at the U16 European Championship Women Division B was loaded with thrilling basketball games. Romania booked a last minute ticket to the Quarter-Final Round. In an "all or nothing" game against Israel they came up with a dramatic 71-69 win.

Iulia Raileanu scored a game high 30 points to provide the basis for victory. Romania outscored Israel 24-8 in the second quarter and captured a comfortable lead. But Israel rallied in the second half and finally tied the game late in the fourth. Suddenly confronted with the possibility of getting eliminated from the Quarter-Finals, Romania struggled but did not fall and held on for the win 71-69.

In other Group F games England defeated Ireland 67-31 and Slovak Republic beat Germany (91-84) in yet another overtime thriller. The Slovaks clinched first spot in their group with that victory.

In Group E Hungary lost for the first time in the tournament but despite their 49-67 against Latvia they were ranked top of their group. Latvia's win was useless as they failed to reach the Quarter-Finals.

Slovenia and Bulgaria both are set to play in the Quarters. In their last Qualifying Round match Bulgaria defeated the Slovenians 70-62. Portugal who have also qualified had no problems in beating Denmark (51-26).

For eight teams the race for the promotion to the higher category continues. The Quarter-Final Round match-ups:
Portugal - Germany
England - Bulgaria
Hungary - Romania
Slovak Republic - Slovenia
