Finland No Obstacle For France

In-form France easily dispatched Finland 78-44 to kick off their games in the U16 European Championship Women Qualifying Round in style.

The tournament's leading scorer Olivia Epoupa sat out the game as French Head Coach Jerome Fournier was looking for an opportunity to give some of his key players a well deserved rest.

The Finns gave the favoured French a good battle in the first half, especially in the opening quarter they kept up with France. An 8-0 run even gave them an early lead.

France responded with a 13-0 run to reclaim the lead (10-20). Finland rallied and outscored France 8-2 to end the first quarter on a positive note.

In the second quarter the French took advantage of their size underneath the baskets. Out-rebounding Finland 26-11 they were able to secure themselves a lot more possessions. At halftime they led by as many as 14 points (24-38).

After the break France outclassed Finland as they claimed an 18 point advantage at the end of the third period.

The gap grew bigger after France started the final quarter with 10 unanswered points. Down 33-61 the Finns knew all they could do is accept defeat.

Clémentine Morateur of France led all scorers with 15 points. Ella Rantanen had 10 points for Finland.
