Greece defeated Denmark 55-50 at the U16 European Championship for Women Division B in Bulgaria to claim first place in Group A. Artemis Spanou scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Greeks, who now go into Group E of the Qualifying Round for places one through eight with a 1-0 record. Gritt Ryder had 14 points for the Danes, who start Group E at 0-1. The Slovenians finished top of Group B after a 59-38 trouncing of Switzerland. Bulgaria won 57-47 over Ireland. Both Slovenia and the Bulgarians finished 3-1 in the pool, but Slovenia won the tie-break and advanced to the next phase with a 1-0 mark. Slovakia won 56-46 over Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands romped to a 72-44 victory over Estonia in Group C. The Slovakians clinched first place with a 3-0 record ahead of the Dutch, and go into the Qualifying Round with a 1-0 mark. Finland and Romania advanced from Group D as the first- and second-place teams. The Finns finished 3-0 after edging Croatia 59-57 and Romania rolled to an 84-61 triumph over Montenegro. |
