Lottomatica Roma's season has ebbed and flowed like a soap opera with former Italy captain Carlton Myers playing the lead role in most episodes.
Myers had one of his better performances on Sunday as the Eternal City club posted a 105-88 victory over first-placed Montepaschi Siena. He poured in a team-high 21 points at Rome's Palasport.
Myers is not stealing the headlines for his play, though, but rather his comments before the game in which he asked spoke of wanting to know as soon as possible where he will play in the future.
Myers wants to know now, while the club want to wait until after the season.
Montepaschi, one of the richest clubs in Lega A, are reportedly his future destination.
Roma secured a first-round play-off tie with Fortitudo Bologna by winning the game but questions after the contest inevitably centred on the future of Myers, the talisman in Italy's European Championship winning side in 1999.
"At this time, it's better to concentrate on the play-offs than to try and find a controversy," Roma president Claudio Toti said.
"Frankly, I don't think Carlton wants to put me under pressure but I am surprised by the fact that Myers, who never in the past liked the press, has in the last month become an interview lover.
"Myers has a contract, but he's not satisfied. He wants a better contract and also wants a confirmation of what players will be alongside him here next season."
Lottomatica will be hoping that Myers feels a sense of urgency to impress suitors with some game-winning performances in the best-of-five, first-round series.
The 3,000 fans could have few complaints about Roma on Sunday, as they jumped out to a 30-18 lead in the first quarter and extended that to 17 by half-time before cruising home.
Montepaschi had already secured top seed in the standings for the play-offs and had they won, Roma would have been their first-round opponents but instead, they will take on Metis Varese.
Montepaschi coach Carlo Recalcati told PA International: "We were never in the game but the credit has to go to the Roma players. We have played a very negative game. Our attack was inconsistent and our defence was weak.
"We will have to reflect on this defeat."
Roberto Chiacig, the Mens Sana centre who is an Italian international, said: "Maybe we lacked motivation, seeing as this game did not affect the standings.
"Now we face Metis Varese in the play-offs. They are going through a difficult time, but we cannot underestimate them. We certainly have to play much better than we did in this game to progress in the play-offs."
Metis Varese were beaten 94-87 at Scavolini Pesaro, but most worrying for the winners was the loss of scoring machine Alphonso Ford to a muscular injury which has put his participation in the first round of the play-offs into doubt.
Ford had scored 12 points in just 11 minutes when he had to come out of the game.
Scavolini were already facing a difficult tie with Pompea Napoli and now that will be even harder without Ford.
Fortitudo lost in their final regular season game, falling 104-70 at Breil Milano.
Third placed Benetton Treviso, who take on sixth placed Oregon Cantu in the post-season, won 81-73 over Lauretana Biella.
Pompea, with fifth place already secure, lost 98-85 at Coop Nordest Trieste.
In other games, Tris Reggio Calabria edged Snaidero Udine 76-72, Air Avellino fell at home to Oregon Cantu 97-94, Teramo Basket slipped to a 114-113 home defeat to Euro Roseto and Mabo Livorno won a battle against bottom side Sicilia Messina 88-86.
