Lottomatica Roma's Carlton Myers became only the third player in Lega A history to score 10,000 points on Saturday and immediately after making history he dedicated the feat to the memory of former team-mate Davide Ancilotto.

A Virtus Roma star, Ancilotto collapsed during a pre-season game in August, 1997, and died a week later because of a heart-related illness. Myers and Ancilotto had played alongside each other for Italy during qualifying for the 1997 European Championships.

"I want to dedicate this record to Davide Ancilotto, who would have celebrated his 30th birthday today (January 3)," Myers said.

"I knew him well. He was a very good man and basketball player. If he were still alive, I'm sure he would reach and pass my record for points."

		Myers won European gold in 1999 with Italy

Myers is one of Italy's most famous sports personalities. After hitting the 10,000-point mark, he added another bucket and finished with 17 points on Saturday as Roma beat Sicilia Messina 81-76. The player also said after the game that he was thinking of his son.

"The ball I reached ten thousand points with, I have given to my son," he said.

The London-born Myers has scored the bulk of his points as a Fortitudo Bologna guard before joining the Giallorossoblu two seasons ago.

He announced after Italy's bronze-medal win at the European Championships in Sweden that he wants to return to the national team after the Olympics. He led Italy to European Championship gold in 1999.

Riva is the all-time leading scorer with 14,397 points, most of which were scored for Cantu and Milano.

He was also a star for the Azzurri. Once, in 1987, he poured in 46 points in a game for the national team. But more importantly, Riva won a gold medal with the Italians at the 1983 European Championships.

Schmidt, the great Brazilian who shone for Caserta near Naples, finished with 13,957 points in the Italian top flight. He was recently honoured with a testimonial at Caserta.

He is best known for his heroics on national team duty, however. In 1987, Scmidt had the best performance of his career when he scored 46 points - 35 in the second half - to lead Brazil past the United States in the final of the Pan American Games.
