Peja Stojakovic might be the most successful Serbian player to ever play in the NBA, but the fans in his own country are beginning to forget him. The last time he played for the National Team was in Sweden four years ago. For different reasons, Stojakovic shunned his international “duties” in recent years. His shooting was badly missed and his absence coincided with the decline of Serbian basketball on the global scene. With a new team and a new contract, Serbs expect their hero to give a new chance to the National Team. Alas, Stojakovic injured himself early in the season and didn’t see any action since. His participation in Spain is still a big question mark. Potentially paired with other NBA players such as Krstic, Milicic or Pavlovic, Peja would provide much needed substance to the dilapidated Serbian team. If he doesn’t show up, the Serbians will face a gap impossible to bridge.
