Slovenia Down Ukraine

Group A

Slovenia jumped to a 1-1 record after their close loss to Poland on opening day.

Ukraine suffered a 20 point defeat for the 2nd day in a row, after losing to host team Lithuania yesterday by the same margin.

12. Marko Pajic (Slovenia)
12. Marko Pajic looks after the ball here but usually had the better of his opponents in the game.

Tomorrow they will try to avoid the relegation games in their most important game of the tournament.

Marko Pajic topped Slovenia's list in both points - 14 and rebounds - 12, Matej Rojc added 12 and Jan Span finished with 11 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

Olexiy Len led Ukraine with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Klym Artamonov scored 13.

The final score hides the happening of the first half when the sides fought neck-to-neck for the lead.

After an 8-0 start by Slovenia, it were Artamonov and Len who took over right from the start for their team and set a 13-14 lead for their side after 7 minutes.

The lead changed hands time after time as Len on one side and Span on the other kept their team active on the way to a 36-33 half time lead in favor of Slovenia.

After 27 minutes the difference was still only 4 in favor of Slovenia, 48-44, but that was as close as Ukraine got.

An 11-2 run led by Rojc and Pajic set a different tone for the game, and Ukraine was out of answers, as the run extended to 20-7, enough to set a 17 point gap to decide the game and give Slovenia a big bost of confidence before the key game tomorrow.

Slovenia will take on the hosts tomorrow in hope to snatch the first spot in the group, while Ukraine has a battle against Poland.
