INTERVIEWSIn celebration of their 75 th anniversary the Luxembourg Basketball Federation left no stone unturned. A stamp was produced in honor of the event, friendly tournaments were organized and, in July, referees from the country were treated to a presentation by FIBA Europe Referee Coordinator Miguel Betancor. |

Just like players, referees hone their craft through hard work and practice. With that in mind over 300 officials from across Europe will participate in a refresher clinic for referees to take place over four weekends in Munich, Germany and Grand Canaria, Spain in May and June. |

2005 REFEREE CLINICSThe Referees nominated to this year’s EuroBasket tournaments for Men & Women met collectively in Chalkida in Athens to prepare themselves for the forthcoming games.
Prior to the meeting, the referees were told that this would be unlike any previous clinic that they may have attended, and once there the workload that they undertook was intensive and demanding. |

FIBA Europe´s Referee Department in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas Gran Canaria and Producciones Audiovisuales has designed a produced a new set of teaching materials based on the review of games and officiating from the 2004-05 season.
These materials have been produced for the specific reason of supporting the education and development of referees in Europe. |

FIBA Europe has seen many innovations in the past 2 years with regards to the education and communication with its referees.
From the launch of the FIBA Europe refereeing web site to the presence of referee instructors at all official events, everything is geared towards improving the quality of officiating in international competition. |

REFEREE EDUCATIONAs part of the ongoing development of referees in Europe, FIBA Europe's Referee Department hosted its first meeting last weekend to plan a programme that will help in the development of young referees. The participants included a variety of experts, all currently involved in the training and development of referees. |

REFEREE CLINICS 2004FIBA Europe’s Referee Clinics in Gran Canaria came to an end Tuesday, 22nd June, but have only kicked off the plans for the new FIBA Europe Referee Department.
The past month has kept the University of Las Palmas, 223 referees, 44 referee instructors, 10 commissioners, four referee candidates, multiple tutor referees and FIBA Europe Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancor busy. |

FIBA Europe is more than halfway through its 2004 Referee Clinics in Gran Canaria, Spain, as clinic #4 began on 12th June.
Bringing this educational experience for European referees together have been the Tutor Referees and Instructors, led by FIBA Europe Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancor (ESP). Betancor has been a Referee Instructor for years and is an education professor at the University of Las Palmas, as well. |

The third session of the 2004 FIBA Europe Referee Clinic kicked off on 6th June in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. During these six clinics, approximately 225 referees face one of the newest challenges to European refereeing as they are trained in three-person mechanics. |

Since 29th May, almost 75 referees have flocked to Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, Spain, for the annual FIBA Europe Referee Clinics. The clinics, which are being held in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas, contain many new twists in the education of European referees. |
