12 August 2008

In celebration of their 75th anniversary the Luxembourg Basketball Federation left no stone unturned.

A stamp was produced in honor of the event, friendly tournaments were organized and, in July, referees from the country were treated to a presentation by FIBA Europe Referee Coordinator Miguel Betancor.

63 referees and commissioners from Luxembourg, as well as 12 referees officiating a U20 friendship tournament, heard Betancor speak in the amphitheatre of the National Sport Centre.

"Consistency of officiating is one of our goals and that means events like this are always important," commented Betancor.

"It's great to be here to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation and to get a chance to share ideas with, and get feedback from, referees and commissioners."

Betancor spoke on his philosophy of refereeing as well as presenting two DVD's produced by FIBA Europe to help officials better understand criteria and game management.
