New Teaching Resources for European Referee Instructors

16.06.2005

FIBA Europe´s Referee Department in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas Gran Canaria and Producciones Audiovisuales has designed a produced a new set of teaching materials based on the review of games and officiating from the 2004-05 season.

These materials have been produced for the specific reason of supporting the education and development of referees in Europe.

They include video tests, with the use of multimedia, reviewing play situations, and specific topics, for example: act of shooting, charge and block and verticality etc..

The review of the mechanics for two person and three person officiating (2PO & 3PO) is also presented in a multimedia format, again supported with video examples to best demonstrate the principals that need to be applied.

The aim of this is to assist the national instructors in clarifying for the referees, criteria and mechanics, attitude and methods of learning. These materials will be used within referee meetings at all of the tournaments throughout the summer. These materials will also be used within the national federations ensuring a consistent approach at all levels of the game.

The use of the materials will also be possible in some instances through the dedicated referees website, and these materials are intended to be flexible in their design, so that as the game changes then these materials can also be changed and updated when necessary.
