Just like players, referees hone their craft through hard work and practice. With that in mind over 300 officials from across Europe will participate in a refresher clinic for referees to take place over four weekends in Munich, Germany and Grand Canaria, Spain in May and June. The clinics will focus on a variety of issues including a written rules examination and a fitness test. This year's clinics hold special significance with the recent rules changes approved by the Central Board of FIBA which include the moving of the three-point line from 6.25m to 6.75m, the move to a rectangular key from the traditional trapezoid and the adoption of a "no-charge" semicircle. The rules will come into effect in stages with the changes mentioned above being phased in following the 2010 World Championships. FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin, Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancor and many other FIBA Europe officials will be on hand for the event.
