FIBA Europe has confirmed that Benetton Basket, as the next possible Italian club, will replace Capo D' Orlando in the group of teams already qualified for the EuroCup Regular Season.

The games Benetton Fribourg Olympic vs. Benetton Basket home and away games in Qualifying Round I of the EuroCup are now cancelled.

FIBA Europe has announced the seedings for the upcoming draws of the EuroBasket 2009 and EuroBasket Women 2009 Final Rounds.

The EuroBasket Women 2009 draw will take place on Wednesday, October 15 in Riga, Latvia. The EuroBasket 2009 draw is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, in Warsaw, Poland.

The International Olympic Committee and other key members of the international sports movement met earlier this month in Lausanne, Switzerland to discuss the definition of the specificity and the autonomy of sport within the European Union.

With the Qualifying Round for EuroBasket 2009 complete Serbia, FYR of Macedonia, Turkey and Great Britain have secured spots in the final round in Poland as the winners of their groups.

Latvia, Israel and Bulgaria also advanced to the final round of the event as the three best second place teams. The four teams placed second in their groups were ranked according to win/loss percentage and goal coefficient with the top three advancing to the final round of EuroBasket 2009.

FIBA Europe has approved the venues and the format for basketball's top national team competitions next year, EuroBasket Women 2009 in Latvia and EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.

The Competitions Commission of European basketball's governing body met in Munich, September 12, to endorse the details of next summer's major tournaments.

FIBA Europe was sad to learn on Saturday of the passing of former Spanish Basketball Federation President Ernesto Segura de Luna at the age of 86.

Georgia Games Rescheduled // 22 August 2008

Due to the ongoing political situation in Georgia FIBA Europe has made the decision to move two EuroBasket Division B Qualifying Round games originally scheduled to be played in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The decision means that the home and away games to be played between the teams involved have effectively been switched.

FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos received a special honour on Saturday when it was announced that the Municipal Gym of Pyrgos was renamed after him.

Andrei Kirilenko received his 2007 FIBA Europe Player of the Year award before the tip-off of the game between European champions Russia and Latvia in Moscow on Friday.
