EuroBasket 2011 is still more than a year away but for many in Lithuania and across Europe the official countdown can start now as the organizers of the event released the official dates of the competition on Monday.
The tournament will run from 3-18 September.
It was first things first however for Vilnius Mayor Vilius Navickas as he looked ahead to the Omnitel U18 European Championship Men taking place this summer in Vilnius.
"For the last six months we have been working very hard with the Lithuanian Basketball Federation," he said.
"I can assure everybody that the city is ready to host this very prestigious tournament."
Lithuanian Basketball Federation President Vladas Garastas sees the youth event, which will run from 22 July to 1 August, as an opportunity to build on the success of last summer's U16 Championship.
"Last summer we hosted the U16 European Championship Men and we got very positive feedback," commented Garastas.
"This year we want to take the next step and run the U18 Championship at an even higher level."
