Though many fans in Spain and France are still basking in the glow of their EuroBasket and EuroBasket Women 2009 titles, the attention of the European basketball world turned to the next edition of the continent's premier basketball events on Saturday with the draws for the Qualifying Rounds for EuroBasket and EuroBasket Women 2011.
The draws for EuroBasket and EuroBasket Women Division B were also held along with that of the European Championships for Men and Women, Division C.
15 national sides earned the right to battle for one of five spots at EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania.
The competitors were drawn into three groups of five teams each with the first place team in each group, and the two best second place teams qualifying for EuroBasket automatically.
The six best remaining teams will then compete in the Additional Qualifying Round with the winner earning the final spot at EuroBasket 2011.
Perennial power Italy, who missed out on last year's event, was drawn into Group A alongside Finland, Montenegro and EuroBasket 2009 participants Israel and Latvia.
Meanwhile Group B features 2009 qualifiers F.Y.R. of Macedonia and Great Britain, as well as Hungary, Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Group C may be the most balanced of all, featuring 2009 hosts Poland along with Belgium, Portugal, Bulgaria and Georgia who won promotion from Division B in 2009.
EuroBasket Women qualifying, meanwhile, will find 18 teams competing for one of eight spots in Poland in 2011.
Groups A and C will consist of five teams each while B and D will be four team groups.
The teams placed first and second in each group will qualify automatically while the top six of the remaining teams will compete in an Additional Qualifying Round, the winner of which will earn the last spot in Poland.
