|Ksenia Tikhonenko came up big for Russia with a 25-point, 14-rebound double-double|
Russia opened their account in Group C of the U20 European Championship Women with a hard-fought 64-52 win over Hungary in Samsun on Thursday.
Following the first half during which the lead went back and forth, Russians went ahead for good at the beginning of the second half. They patiently took control and built advantage in the third quarter, as Ksenia Tikhonenko proved unstoppable down low.
The Russian center contributed with six points in an 8-2 run that gave her team a 48-38 advantage, from wherein they cruised to victory.
Last year's silver medallists got the best out of their huge advantage on the boards, as they outrebounded Hungary 54-25.
Tikhonenko led the way with 25 points and 14 rebounds, Daria Namok netted 18 points while Galina Kiseleva grabbed 14 rebounds along with her nine points. Szidonia Katona had 13 points for Hungary.
