France claimed fifth place at the U20 European Championship Women after topping Russia 55-48 in the classification game for 5th to 6th place on Sunday.

During the first three quarters, the two teams often traded leads, and appropriately went into the final 10 minutes tied at 41.

But at the start of the final frame Christelle Diallo and Marie Mbuyamba scored on back-to-back possessions, giving France the lead for good, with Diallo then hitting a pair of close-range baskets to seal the deal in the final two minutes.

The French overcame an 0-for-5 three-point performance with a 13-2 advantage in fastbreak points, as well as outscoring Russia 38-24 in the paint.

Diallo scored eight of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, and finished the game with eight rebounds, too. Romane Bernies also scored 17 in victory.

Daria Namok had 14 for Russia, while Ksenia Tikhonenko finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
