Spain responded to their somewhat shock loss to Sweden by bouncing back to winning ways at the U20 European Championship Women with a convincing 74-51 victory against Poland to safely secure second place in Group E.

The defending champion was always likely to ensure their opponent felt a backlash and that was certainly the case, particularly defensively.

The Spanish defensive pressure was at times simply too hot to handle for Poland who crumbled, spilling the ball 27 times.

Consequently scoring certainly wasn't easy and especially when they were giving Spain far too much in transition.

Poland fell 16-10 behind but couldn't break double digits during the second period and once 34-15 behind, it was little more than a formality that Spain cruised to victory.

The hard work defensively of Spain was underlined by Mariona Ortiz, Inmaculada Zanoguera and Queralt Casas all grabbing four steals each.

Poland's day was also made worse when Karolina Wilk sustained a worrying knee-injury and had to leave the game prematurely.

It's a result which now means Poland must sit and sweat on their place in the quarter-finals, ironically needing Belarus, the primary cause of their current predicament, to beat Netherlands in the last group game to hand them a ticket for the last eight.
