|Daniela Domingues led the way for Portugal with 17 points and five assists|
Portugal is alive and kicking in the bid to stay in Division A after they finally chalked up a first win at the U20 European Championship Women with a fine 60-57 overtime success against Latvia.
Trailing by nine points during the final quarter, Portugal continued fighting and found an extra gear during the closing minutes to haul themselves back into the contest, Daniela Domingues levelling the scores inside the last minute of regulation.
Both teams had the chance to win the game but couldn't execute and Portugal carried their momentum into overtime, boosted by Latvian powerhouse Dita Rozenberga fouling out almost immediately having harvested an impressive double-double.
Portugal kept their composure and finished the job for a precious first win which keeps them in the race to beat the drop.
Dominguez finished with 17 points and five assists for her team while Victoria Pacheco did the business on the boards with 15 rebounds.
However, Italy are now in the box-seat after claiming their second win from as many games with a convincing 68-47 success against a Great Britain team whose chances of survival now hang by the finest of threads.
A poor opening half cost them dearly as the Italians moved into a double-figure lead at the break and with Giovanna Pertile racking up 17 points, there was no way back for the British who now look destined for Division B.
