The Second Round at the U18 European Championship Women tipped off in style for Turkey who grabbed a dramatic and highly entertaining 60-58 success against Sweden to become the first team to book a Quarter-Final berth in Bucharest.

Having posted three straight wins during the First Round, Turkey went into the game as strong favourites but were pushed hard by Sweden, who made big shots just when they looked likely to fade away.

In fact the Swedes took the lead at 58-57 with just over a minute remaining and that meant the result was still hanging in the balance right up until the closing moments.

However, another excellent display by Turkey guard Pelin Biglic, who poured in 21 points for her team, was the difference as she once more showcased her composure in crunch time.

In many ways, it was tough on Sweden who fights to live another day and particularly since they did a great job of slowing down a Turkish team so dangerous in the open court.

Ultimately a few too many turnovers and crucially a pivotal one with only a few seconds left on the clock proved very costly.

Elif Emirtekin finished with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds for Turkey.
