Romania will have to fight to stay in Division A of the U18 European Championship Women after Russia imposed a crushing 80-38 defeat on the winless hosts during day three in Bucharest.

The home team was just far too careless looking after the ball to even get close to Russia.

In fact, they had as many turnovers as points and also gave themselves something of a mountain to climb after being on the wrong end of a 20-7 start.

It was a physically strong performance by Russia who dominated on the glass, pressured the ball to great effect and did what was necessary offensively, particularly on the fast-break.

Impressively, they also refused to show any mercy despite this being a win they won't be able to count during the second round of the competition.

Rather than relaxing during the final period, Russia continued the onslaught as strongly as ever with all twelve players managing to score.

The Romania loss was however good news for Greece who survives and as anticipated earlier in the day, will move forward into the second round - even if they can't carry over a first day success against Romania.
