|Russia's Julia Gladkova led all scorers with 17 points|
After their vicious mauling at the hands of the Spain on Monday, Russia bounced back in fine style less than 24 hours later by handing France a first taste of defeat at the U18 European Championship Women, 68-58.
Perhaps still hurting from their 92-66 loss the previous day, Russia looked intent on making amends right from the tip-off, catching the French cold with a blistering 21-11 first quarter.
It was a huge confidence boost and while France worked themselves back into the game to halve the deficit by the interval and then took the lead at 48-47, courtesy of a sublime slice to the hoop by Lidija Turcinovic, Russia held firm.
Just when it mattered, in the final quarter when the game was locked at 49-49, the Russians posted a game-winning 10-2 run to help seal the win and stay alive in Group E.
Alexandra Marchenkova, Albina Razheva and Julia Gladkova all had good shooting performances but they key to the game was most certainly seven precious offensive rebounds by Olga Novikova.
Aby Gaye finished with a double-double for France who despite the loss, could still yet finish as group winners.
