The Czech Republic took a step forward in the Relegation Round after winning their first match-up with fellow survival-favourites Belgium, while Poland registered a first win at the U18 European Championship Women.
Both the Czechs and the Belgians were coming off two consecutive victories, against Poland and Romania, so something had to give when they went head to head and it was the Czechs who took victory, with a 64-62 success.
Kamila Hoskova led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds but Sarka Jozova was the hero, making four triples in the game, two of which came back-to-back during crunch time.
Hind Ben Abdelkader racked up 27 points for Belgium who could have maybe chased harder in the closing seconds to win the game, but also had one eye on the points margin since the two teams will meet again.
Poland found a Relegation Round win at the third attempt, beating Romania 82-62.
The result means the tournament hosts are rapidly sliding towards Division B while Poland has given themselves a better opportunity of staying up with this victory.
Dominika Owczarzak had 12 points and seven assists for the winners.
