|Guard Linnea Frykbo had 22 points for Sweden on Friday, in a victory that allows them to go up against the Slovak Republic for 9th place |
The duel to finish the tournament in ninth spot tipped off at the U18 European Championship Women with Sweden and the Slovak Republic advancing to the ninth-place game on Sunday.
Sweden overturned a seven-point half-time deficit against Slovenia to claim a 68-58 win, thanks mainly to the way they came out for the third period.
They wrestled the initiative away from the Slovenians with a 20-9 third quarter and never looked back.
Paulina Hersler was once again a primary presence under the basket for Sweden as she claimed 25 points while Linnea Frykbo posted her highest score of the tournament with 22 points.
Center Eva Lisec was back playing healthy minutes for Slovenia again and she showed why she is so badly missed when she isn't around, recording 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
The Slovak Republic meanwhile trashed Greece 81-48 as centre Zofia Hruscáková claimed a superb fifth double-double in six games for the winning team.
Already leading by ten points as they headed to the locker rooms, the Slovak Republic kept their foot on the gas when they came out for the second half and despite 20 points from Anna Stamolamprou, Greece couldn't form any kind of collective resistance to keep their opponent at bay.
