U18 WOMEN

14. Ziva Macura (Slovenia)
Ziva Macura does not have a favourite song but she will unreservedly vote for Greece once the Ideal-Holiday-Destination-and-Perpetual-Olympics-Host awards are established

Ziva Macura has played a key role in helping Slovenia reach the Second Round of the U18 European Championship Women and now she has a bigger challenge on her hands as she faces our half-court press.

The forward contributed a priceless eight points and eight rebounds in the pivotal win over 2011 gold medallists Belgium but before she can dream of a quarter-final place, the seventeen-year-old from Ljubljana must first tackle our questions.

FE.com: What's your first basketball memory?
Ziva Macura: That would be when I was about 3 or 4 years old and my mother would pass me the ball and then my father would always hold me in his arms so that I could dunk it!

Why did you want to become a basketball player?
I fell in love with the game at a young age because my parents both played it as did many of my other relatives and that makes basketball very much our family sport.

Which part of training/practice do you like the most/the least?
I like playing 5 on 5 and ball-handling exercises the most and the hardest part always takes place in the weights room!

If you were at the Olympics but not as a basketball player, which other sport do you think it would be fun to win a gold medal in?
I think the 100 metres sprint, or maybe swimming.

Your dream holiday would be where and doing what?
In Greece, having fun with my friends and watching the Olympic Games (in my dream they would be hosted there).

If you could only listen to one song again for the rest of your life what would it be?
That is a tough one. I soon get tired of listening to one song so I don't have a favourite one.

And, who would get to choose the music on the team bus and what type of music would it be?
My team-mate Alina Gjerkes because she listens to all different kinds of music- just as I do!

Who is the most sensible of your team-mates and who is the craziest and why?
The most sensible one is somehow hard to choose since we are all a bit sensible and a bit crazy. The craziest is Eva Lisec because she always makes jokes and puts us all in a good mood.

What is the best basketball game you have played in and why?
It was the Quarter-Final at the U18 European Championship Women in Poprad, Slovakia during 2010. By winning that game we qualified for the FIBA World Championship U19 tournament in Chile last year.

What are the most important things for a basketball player to have?
To have a good sense so you can read the game and do the right things in the most important parts of the game, to have a work ethic and also self-confidence.

There's only two seconds on the shot clock, do you pass or shoot?
Shoot!
