|Aleksandra Crvendakic was influential for Serbia, scoring 17 points to go with 12 boards|
Rising star Aleksandra Crvendakic underlined her potential at the U18 European Championship Women after producing a stand-out display to help Serbia claim a 65-52 opening day win against Greece.
The center racked up an eye-catching 17 points on six-of-nine floor shooting and added 12 rebounds to secure a double-double, as well as dishing up six assists.
Greece had trouble at both ends of the court with the twin tower combos of Crvendakic and fellow center Dragana Stankovic, who was a colossus defensively with a fantastic five blocked shots.
It was Greece who started better, opening up a handy 20-12 lead after the first ten minutes.
However Sanja Mandic, who finished with 18 points for Serbia, helped her team back into the game with a three-pointer cutting the gap to one point at 31-30 just before half time.
The same player then tied the game up at 35 when the second half got underway and the momentum switched in favour of the Serbians.
They stepped up their defensive effort and whilst it was still a one-shot game at 44-41, a scorching 20-5 run by Serbia broke Greek resistance and sealed the win.
Anna Stamolamprou and Eleanna Christinaki shared 25 points in defeat.
